Houtschild International Booksellers has been acquired by Smiths News PLC and, with immediate effect, will become part of its book wholesaling business - The Bertrams Group.
 
Bertrams is a leading UK book wholesaler; under the ownership of Smiths News it has grown significantly and seen considerable investment. Most notably, the business acquired Dawson Books in 2011, making it a major player in academic markets as well as its wholesale and public library businesses.
 
Houtschild has many similarities to Bertrams’ academic library and eBook businesses and can expect the support and direction needed in an ever-changing market. Bertrams is committed to maintaining Houtschild as an independent business; they recognise the unique quality of what Houtschild does and want to build on that by investing in what Houtschild can offer its customers.

June 2012 Houtschild win new European Commission Library Contract
Following on from Houtschild’s success in May 2009 the European Commission have again chosen Houtschild as their single supplier for Monographs and Standing Orders. This time it is for the Lot relating to publications from the UK, USA, Ireland, Scandinavia, Baltic States and Rest of World. The estimated annual spend is in the region of 1 to 2 million Euro.
The present contract for the Lot awarded in 2009 - Benelux, Germany, France - will have run its (successful) course in May 2013.
 
January 2012 Eurojust: Houtschild selected as sole book supplier
The tender submitted by Houtschild was selected for the award of the related multiple framework contract and is ranked in position 1.
 
June 2011 European Chemicals Agency pre-selection candidate
Houtschild was selected as supplier of printed and electronic books, journals and electronic/online resources to the European Chemicals Agency.
The selection will be valid for 3 years
 
September 2010 Open Purchase Order European Space Agency
Houtschild was chosen as preferred book supplier of the European Space Agency.

March 2010 Houtschild wins Special Tribunal for Lebanon contract
Houtschild wins the tender for the supply of Library Books, Reference Materials and Other Library Supplies to The Special Tribunal for Lebanon.
This contract was extended in February 2012
 
July 2009 Houtschild to supply Higher Education Libraries in England
Houtschild has been chosen as one of the preferred suppliers of European material under the Joint Consortia Agreement to Higher Education Libraries throughout England. The estimated annual spend is in the region of 1 million Euro.
This award follows a successful history of supplying into the UK academic world for over 20 years.
